According to Mr. Papadopoulos, there are 650.000 POS terminals in the Greek market while in 2016, the number of POS was 300.000.

For its part, Cardlink manages more than one million transactions per day and has 300.000 active POS terminals, equal to almost 1 in 2 of the available POS in the market.

According to Mr. Papadopoulos, the mandatory supply of POS may have increased their number, but there are entrepreneurs that own but do not use a POS. On this basis, he expressed the view that there should be a mechanism to keep track of POS terminals either via TaxisNet or by data possessed by the banks and POS providers.

Mr. Papadopoulos mentioned that consumers now trust their card’s PIN, which was a problem in the past, and show great familiarity with contactless transactions. As he pointed out, nowadays, 30% of card transactions are being made contactless.

Mr. Papadopoulos highlighted that Cardlink is constantly investing in infrastructure and products, and has the ability to easily manage more than 100 transactions per second, with its infrastructures being able to support even 200 transactions per second!
